Openings for Visiting Scientists

The Statistical Sciences Division (StatSD) of the Indian Statistical Institute invites applications/nominations for positions of Visiting Scientist. Candidates may include (a) those who have recently obtained PhD degrees in Statistics/Mathematics/Computer Science or related areas, (b) those who have submitted their PhD theses and are awaiting the degree in the above areas, and (c) experienced researchers in the above areas. If a position is offered to a candidate of category (b), continuation of the same beyond the period for which it is initially offered will be contingent upon successful completion of the PhD.

This is a rolling advertisement against which applications from candidates or nominations of candidates by a faculty member of the Statistical Sciences Division will be reviewed periodically in a financial year.

The job will require carrying out high level research work in the applicant's area of interest and/or teaching courses at ISI. Collaboration with one or more faculty members working in a unit of StatSD is required.

A selected candidate will be offered the position of a Visiting Scientist initially for a period of three months or till the end of the financial year, whichever is shorter. This may be extended, subject to satisfactory performance of the candidate and availability of funds, for a period of at most three months. Young researchers looking for a longer period of engagement may apply for the position of a Research Associate, advertised separately.

Applications, nominations and enquiries should be sent by email to the Professor in Charge, StatSD at pincstatsd@gmail.com. An application/nomination must contain

  1. A curriculum vitae, which must include date of birth, academic qualifications, and job/professional experience, if any.
  2. A list of publications.
  3. A copy of appropriate certificate for a candidate belonging to SC/ST/OBC/PwBD/EWS category.
  4. The proposed period of the visit, and the Unit(s) of ISI where the candidate is willing to be located.
